Circumcision of the foreskin

(with phimosis) and plastic surgery of the frenulum of the penis

The glans of the penis cannot be fully open due to narrowing of the foreskin (phimosis) and a short frenulum (a vertical fold connecting the head of the penis to the foreskin).

These anatomical features can cause discomfort and pain, provoke bleeding, impede proper hygiene, and cause problems in a man's sex life.

A specialized doctor (urologist or andrologist), during a visit, diagnoses phimosis and short frenulum. In Kyiv, if you suspect these pathologies, you can contact Dr.Liulko Sergii. He sees patients at the surgical decision center. Sign up for a convenient day and time for a visit right now!

PHIMOSIS: CAUSES, SYMPTOMS, AND COMPLICATIONS

Phimosis is a condition in which the head of the penis cannot be completely open due to the narrowing of the foreskin. Moreover, for newborns and small boys (up to 3 years old), this is considered a physiological, normal phenomenon. Usually, it goes away on its own. But the narrowing of the foreskin can persist into adolescence and adulthood. And then, we are talking about a deviation from the norm.

The causes of phimosis in adults include:

  • hereditary predisposition;
  • consequences of trauma to the penis: scar tissue of the foreskin is less elastic;
  • inflammatory processes in the area of the head of the penis, including balanoposthitis.

Phimosis may not cause any particular inconvenience to a man in addition to the difficulty of exposing the head of the penis. But also the narrowing of the foreskin can cause the following problems:

  • discomfort and pain during intercourse;
  • decrease in the intensity of sexual sensations;
  • problems with potency or early ejaculation.

In addition, phimosis can cause severe complications in the genitourinary system as a whole. Risk factors include:

  • formation of a favorable environment for infectious inflammatory processes, since high-quality hygiene of the penis (glans) is complex;
  • formation of adhesions, that is, the fusion of the tissues of the penis and foreskin;
  • infringement of the head (paraphimosis), which in turn is fraught with tissue necrosis;
  • obstructed outflow of urine, and this negatively affects the functioning of the kidneys, can cause diseases of the prostate;
  • pronounced problems with potency.

HOW IS PHIMOSIS TREATED?

The most effective method of treating pathology in adults is the circumcision procedure, circumcision of the foreskin. Urological surgeon Dr Sergii Liulko performs similar simple operations under local anesthesia. Within a couple of hours after circular excision, the patient can leave the clinic.

SHORT FRENULUM AND ITS SYMPTOMS

Typically, the vertical fold of skin that connects the head of the penis to the foreskin is elastic and highly stretchable. But if its length is insufficient, it interferes with the standard opening of the glans penis; it can cause discomfort and pain during erection.

The main symptoms of a short frenulum include:

  • pain or discomfort during intercourse;
  • tilt of the head of the penis downward with an erection;
  • other manifestations, including inflammation, cracks in the skin, the occurrence of phimosis.

HOW IS A SHORT FRENUM TREATED?

As in phimosis, genital surgery is considered the most effective method of solving the problem. Penile frenulum plasty (or frenuloplasty) is performed. This surgery allows you to lengthen the frenulum. Surgeon Liulko performs a similar operation under local anesthesia. The patient does not need hospitalization and long-term recovery.
